FCLMA Soundcheck For Success 2021

The Forest City London Music Awards are back with a larger than life week of activities planned from Jun 6th - June 13th coming to a screen near you! Two Awards shows, Hall of Fame Introductions, a Battle of the Bands, Bursary Presentation and nine Soundcheck For Success events. Whose excited for a week of London music?!?  Below is an overview of the Soundcheck For Success discussions that will be taking place. Events will be livestreamed over Zoom. Pre-registration is recommended. 

 

Monday June 7th 

Women In Music @ 5:00pm 

The Women in Music Panel, moderated by former London radio host Sarah Burke, will gather industry women of diverse backgrounds and experiences to speak about their triumphs and challenges in the music industry.  Panelists will explore a variety of topics including: Knwoing your audience, destroying stereotypes, elevating marginalized voices, breaking the ol' boys club and health, wellness & boundaries. Pop Goes Everything @ 7:30pm 

Genre was once a practical tool for organizing record shops and programming radio stations but what is Pop music today? Mainstream pop has evolved to be inclusive of many more musical influences. Join radio disc jockey J Stevens and leading industry professionals as they unpack the state of pop music today, where the genre originated and where it’s headed. Register here

 

Wednesday June 9th 

Granting Your Way To Success @ 6:30pm

Finding ways to generate funds to allow you to deliver on your musical projects has always been challenging and during COVID and in post-COVID times, the challenge has significantly increased. Take this amazing opportunity to hear from professionals on the inside of granting bodies including London Arts Council, Factor, Ontario Creates and Ontario Arts Council Music Program. Find out how to improve your chances and seize the opportunity to pose your questions directly to the people who are most involved in the decision-making process. Make The Media Want You @ 7:00pm

The media landscape is constantly evolving. As an artist looking for airtime or ink, you need to be strategic and creative about attracting attention. It involves some introspection, a bit of homework, and knowing who to bring your story to. Blanketing all of media with your pitch is no longer an effective plan. Influencing the right people with a targeted pitch, coupled with social media traction, will get better results. Register here 

The Producer's Chair: One-On-One with Bob Marlette @ 8:30pm

Music mixers, engineers and producers constantly strive for perfection. How can you produce work with more clarity, more punch, and more excitement? Bob Marlette has been a household name in Rock music for decades. He’s composed, produced and mixed for some of the most infamous Rock and Metal bands of all time. Bob provides a deep understanding on what makes a song become successful on every level – which is the exact skill-set we all need as modern music makers. Bob Marlette has grown to be one of the most iconic and versatile producers. Early on working as a session musician with artists like Al Stewart on Year of the Cat and Time Passages, he went on to begin writing music and co-producing with David Kirshenbaum. His work as a songwriter, producer, and mixer led him to work with affluent artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rob Zombie, Black Sabbath, Tracy Chapman, Alice Cooper, Sheryl Crow and more. Thursday June 10th

Key Note Address: Iain Taylor, President & CEO, Cadence Music Group @ 7:30pm

Iain Taylor began his career at indie label, Electric Distribution, as Ontario Sales Manager where he helped launch NWA and Nine Inch Nails in Canada. This led to joining Universal Music Canada where he worked for 20 years in a variety of positions, ultimately as Vice President, Sales & Marketing. Iain joined Maple Music Recordings in 2015 as President & CEO, where he rebranded the company as Cadence Music Group and intensified their focus on signing and developing artists on a global level. Register here

Saturday June 12th 

Producer, Producer: Recording in the New Age @ 1:00pm

Music production has changed substantially over the decades. From live off the floor 2-track recordings to 24-track recording and the advent of the Digital Audio Workstation. Now the Covid-19 Pandemic has forced music makers and producers to adjust in light of restrictions. Join this panel as we discuss what it takes to make and record music in the age of Covid-19, social distancing and a new global approach to producing music. Register here

Producers' Secret Sauce @ 3:00pm

This one of a kind roundtable discussion features award-winning producers who pour their whole selves into their craft. Host Lisa Patterson moderates an intersectional gathering of non-conformist producers whose lauded work arises directly from who they are; bringing their natural generosity of spirit, Jedi listening and conscious approach to life to their approach in the studio. This dynamic conversation spills the beans about building a distinctive sonic signature and creating custom-designed atmospheres to bring out the best in an artist.
