London Recognized at the Canadian Live Music Awards

After two long years, we are finally able to celebrate live music together. To make things even more exciting, we are thrilled to see so many in London's music community recognized as nominees at the Canadian Live Music Awards taking place June 10th for Canadian Music Week.  The first Live Music Awards in two years celebrates the individuals and organizations that make up Canada's live music sector across 19 categories, and London is well represented as outlined below.

In addition to individual and organizational recognition, the City of London has been highlighted with the Music City Award for Excellence in Music City Development. The Canadian Live Music Awards highlight The City of London with a special recognition for London's continued effort in "making a demonstrated commitment to leveraging the power of live music locally, to rebuild, recover and grow thanks to live music". This is certainly an honour and while we are thrilled with this award, we recognize the work that remains and the partners and individuals that make London a fabulous music community.

Please join us in celebrating local London music champions with their nominations at The Canadian Live Music Awards on June 10th.

#ForTheLoveOfLIVE Individual Award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond to contribute to their community. Brandon Eedy has been a long-time staple in London and the Canadian music community. Over the pandemic, Eedy launched an online version of Rock and Roll Bingo to support local businesses, charities and organizations within London. Eedy embraces music and entertainment and gives so much back to London outside of his roles with London Music Hall and Summercamp Productions.

The Outstanding Emerging Organization Award is presented to a new livestreaming organization, in which Culturas 360° is nominated. London’s Sunfest was a founding partner of this organization, focused on providing live music through a virtual collaboration that unities artists, cultures and festivals from across the globe. Culturas 360° is committed to the United Nations sustainable development goals, pushing for more equitable and inclusive voices.

The Outstanding Digital Live Music Event focuses on festivals and venues that have presented outstanding digital content. Aeolian Hall’s Phoenix Sessions have been nominated in this category. Phoenix Sessions are a cross-sectional music experience brought to the comfort of your home. Aeolian continues to be a leader in this space, welcoming local, national, and even international artists to perform virtually. Learn more about upcoming Phoenix Sessions here.

The Outstanding In-Person Specialty Concert Award recognizes Jones Entertainment, presenters of The Road to Rock the Park Patio Series. After successfully hosting scaled down outdoor live music events through a patio series, the ‘Rock The Park’ name stayed top of mind and provided artists some of the first live music performance opportunities in Ontario during the pandemic. Rock The Park returns this summer with performances by Alanis Morissette, The Glorious Sons, TLC, Aqua, Dierks Bentley and so much more!

The Festival Buyer of the Year award is presented to a festival or talent programmer who stands out for their excellence in programming. The ultimate 'Father and Daughter' duo, Alfredo Caxaj and Mercedes Caxaj are the co-artistic directors of SUNFEST. They work diligently to ensure their event’s music is diverse and rich in culture from around the world. They act as magnets to draw artists into Canada and find a space for them to perform.

Industry members and public are asked to cast their votes using the link provided here by June 3. The CLMA is happy to reunite all members to create an atmosphere of liveliness and celebrations by opening doors at 4 PM ET at the El Mocambo on June 10. Let’s cheer on our city through it’s showcase of music culture and industry wide leadership expertise!
