Canadian Songwriter Challenge (Ontario Edition)
- By Katherine Jiang

The seventh annual Ontario edition of the Canadian Songwriter Challenge is here – and this year, it’ll be taking place in our musical hub of London in partnership with the London Music Office, the Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA), and Bell Media. From October 20th – 23rd, London will be hosting this year’s program and showcasing the excellent spaces around London, ON. All genres of music and writing/composition styles are welcome!
The Canadian Songwriter Challenge invites Music Industry Associations from each province to program songwriting retreats to develop the skills of local songwriters. Each year, MusicOntario hosts a group of emerging songwriters and pairs them with experienced mentors, producers, and engineers to co-write and record demos, participate in workshops, and build relationships over the course of 2-5 days. You can find past demos to come out of this program on MusicOntario's SoundCloud.
While we hope to host this program in person, as we have for previous years, we will continue to take all cues from Public Health officials and will be in full compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
While anyone residing in Ontario is eligible to apply, please note that you will have to be able to be present in London for the duration of the program. If you do not live in Ontario, check out the CCMIA’s website for more information on Canadian Songwriter Challenges in other provinces and territories.
Deadline for submissions is October 1, 2021. Applications will be reviewed and assessed by an independent talent committee.
