Emergency Funding Details Announced for Live Music Sector

Details have been announced about Emergency Support Funding for the Canadian Live music sector with the first program stream now open. Below are details outlined by FACTOR.

Further detail on the allocation of Emergency Support Funding has been revealed. As described in Budget 2021 and announced last week by the Honorable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, the $70 million of funding, over the next three years, for Canada’s live music sector and artists will begin with $50 million via the Canada Music Fund (CMF) in fiscal 2021-2022.

STREAM 1: Emergency Funds for Canada’s live music sector: $25 million.

STREAM 2: Support for live concerts to help the sector prepare for the resumption of in-person concerts: $20 million.

STREAM 3: Support for Canadian artists to ensure that the level of funding to artists is maintained despite declining contributions to Canadian Content Development (CCD) from commercial radio broadcasters: $5 million.

STREAM ONE, Emergency Fund Support for Live Sector, is an extension of the support provided to the Canadian live music sector under Phase 2 of the Emergency Support Fund in 2020-2021, with some new elements relating to targeted applicants. As with all CMF funding, these newly announced funds will be delivered through FACTOR for the Anglophone market and Musicaction for the Francophone market. FACTOR and Musicaction have now launched their programs for applications.

STREAM TWO, Support for Live Concerts, will be launched after Stream One and will include activities relating to infrastructure improvements for health and safety for in-person concerts, support for the presentation of hybrid concerts as well as the presentation and promotion of Canadian artists’ live performances to help rebuild their audiences. Further information on this funding will be made available in the coming weeks.
