- By Anja Kniffen

The Junges Vokalensemble from Hannover Germany will be hiting the right notes in Canada's UNESCO City of Music. The choir, along with their conductor, Prof. Klaus-Jürgen Etzold will perform at the closing day of the Canadian UNESCO art exhibit, Celestia on July 22 at the Courtyard at Kelloggs Lane.
The group will then make a stop at Western University for a choral concert masterclass on July 23. This concert is a culmination of a three-day residency as part of a UNESCO City of Music exhange; a small group of conducting students will work with the visiting choir in rehearsal and then conduct them for this final concert.
Founded by its artistic director Prof. Klaus-Jürgen Etzold, the multi-award winning professional choir, Junges Vokalensemble Hannover, performs a wide range of a cappella work. In addition to sacred and secular a cappella music from the 15th century until today, the choir performs cantatas, masses, oratorios, and passions. The choir has recorded sixteen CDs and performed several world premieres of contemporary compositions, including pieces by Büsing, Dinescu, Fuchs, Wangenheim, Świder, Sixten, Penderecki and Banter.
