'Canada's Country Gentleman' Tommy Hunter Leaves Lasting Impression
Tommy Hunter, a Canadian country music legend has sadly passed away on July 2, 2026. 'Canada's Country Gentleman' was born in London where his love of country music began before moving towards a musical career at CBC.
Hunter began performing on a CBC TV show before getting his own radio program, The Tommy Hunter Show, that eventually landed on CBC TV in 1965. Thow show stayed on air until 1992 and featured incredible country music stars in the beginning of their careers, including Gordon Lightfoot.
Tommy Hunter was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1984 and was made a member of the Order of Canada. He received 3 JUNOS and 1 Gemini Award throughout his life, along with many more achievements. A street in his hometown of London was renamed "Tommy Hunter Way" to honour his roots and longstanding success.
Hunter was inducted into the London Music Hall of Fame on his 75th birthday in 2012 at his final Canadian tour. Read more about his induction here.
