UNESCO City of Music: 1 Year Anniversary

One year ago, #LdnOnt was named Canada’s 1st UNESCO City of Music and joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, the largest cultural network on earth. 🌎 This network promotes cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a way to make positive social and economic change. Through this UNESCO City of Music designation, the City of London is working with other municipalities around the world while placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of London’s development plans.

Some of the amazing programs and opportunities UNESCO opened and inspired this year:

🎡 Hosted marque events like the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) awards, Country Music Association of Ontario (CMA) awards & Folk Music Ontario awards
🎡 Hosted artist and industry professional development programs
🎡 Welcomed new events like VENUExVENUE and TD Canada's Play The Parks
🎡 City of London granted money for music production equipment on patios
🎡 The Aeolian Hall launched their 1st annual Songwriter Competition
🎡 London Arts Council brought tons of live music to the streets
🎡 Awarded the Excellence in Music “City” Development award at the Canadian Live Music Association awards

So much has taken place this year and we’re excited for what the future has in store!
