Doug Varty

Doug Varty is a recognized mainstay in London Ontario region’s music scene. He’s an inductee to the London Music Hall Of Fame and a winner of 5 London Music Awards, and honored with Singer/Songwriter, Blues Artist (twice), and Tribute Artist (twice).

Recognized for his acclaimed vocals and stage presence, out of 1500 contestants the Doug Varty Band won “Best New Original Act in Canada” in a nationwide televised Battle of the Bands.

Working as a full time performer since he was a teenager in the 70’s, he’s recorded and toured to promote more than 25 releases with his bands Seadog, Stuttz, Lowdown, The Old Chicago Band, and his own Doug Varty Band.

Always looking for new ways to keep his hand in the music biz, over the years Doug’s used his powerful and distinctive voice on jingles for advertising and themes for kid’s TV shows. He’s written songs and scores for films. He’s toured Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean and North America, with shows in Las Vegas and New York, garnering rave reviews for his “Tonight’s The Night” Rod Stewart Tribute show, a show he continues to tour.

While holding down the guitar and vocalist position for 9 years in the House Band at London’s Old Chicago Speakeasy, Doug wrote for and recorded 2 Old Chicago Band albums with leader Chris Murphy and appeared live with the band on London TV’s “New Day” morning show every week for 4 years.

Through his career Doug Varty’s worked with Rush, Bob Seger, Tina Turner, Jeff Healey, Triumph, John Lee Hooker, Meat Loaf, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Helix, Thundermug, The Beach Boys, John Mellencamp, and a host of others. He’s made albums with producers Terry Brown (Rush), Jack Richardson (The Guess Who), Ralph Murphy (April Wine), and London’s own Robert Breen.

Doug’s current passion is Beatles In Blue, a live show featuring Beatles songs rearranged in various Blues styles that showcase his multi instrumental and vocal skills with his excellent band - some of London’s finest musicians – Paul Loeffelholz, Corey Thompson, and Iain McNally.

Beatles In Blue has released a self titled album to much acclaim, and is currently touring Canada. There’s already a second album in the planning stage, plus an all original, much overdue Doug Varty album coming in 2024.
